Since defeating Archimonde in Warcraft III and learning of Kil’Jaedens presence behind the Lich King and Illidan’s workings we know that a massive fight against the Legion is headed our way. We have had tastes of the oncoming war in nearly every expansion .. even if they have only been small, such as Wrathions forebodings, or the revelations behind the Scarlet Crusade in Northrend. Now it is coming .. it might not be our final fight against the Legion, but it is their first major move against us since their defeat at Hyjal .. and from the outset things are not looking good. Which from a story/plot point and a player point we should be rejoicing!

Really, what is a Rogue .. if we look at the dictionary we are told it is a “dishonest or unprincipled person, esp a man; rascal; scoundrel” . In fiction we have plenty of rogues that everyone loves .. Han Solo, Mal Reynolds, Jack Sparrow and plenty more. But what is a Rogue in any fantasy trope .. its the Thief, the Assassin, the Pirate .. the person no one wants to like because, lets be honest, they do bad stuff.

For years the Rogues in Warcraft have been the personification of the Assassin .. and thats fine, we’ve had the ability to be one that strikes from the shadows, kills through poisons or overpowers through brute force. But it has limited the class. I will be honest, I’ve never been a big fan of any particular Rogue Class. As a Druid I’ve despised them in PvP , and cursed their burst dps, burst deaths and long QQ’s in PVE when they don’t watch what they are doing. As an alt, who doesn’t raid or pvp, one spec was pretty much the same as another to me. Slash, stab, poke.. usually for 1/2 hour, then I would recall I needed to apply poisons, apply, do the same,  occasionally stealth and pickpocket, but not much else. As someone who had the option on his first and main toon of being a raging bear, a viscous lion, a weird space chicken or a mobile tree .. I was fairly disappointed. Rogues have always been the bottum rung of the ladder for me when I consider player classes.

Which is why when Blizzard announced their class previews for Legion I had some great hopes for Rogues, and they were not totally unfulfilled!

It has been a while since I have posted anything (for varying reasons) let alone thrown my opinion out into anyone’s face. So here we go. I don’t think that Warlords Of Draenor was a crap expansion. While I don’t like every single thing in it, neither did I like everything in Mists of Pandaria, Cataclysm, Wrath of the Lich King (which was my favorite expansion .. god bless you dual spec) and Burning Crusade. Overall, there is a lot I did like in WoD and much I wish was making its way forward into future expansions.

So what is there that I like so much?* Lets see shall we!

* I mean apart from the new models – even if some did take a while to grow on me, barring male humans, they are just a travesty

Well, despite all the vagaries of beta from buging quests to character wipes, I have been having fun as always, and will probably chare some thoughts before launch. What I do what to share right now though is one thing that did make me smile.

Yesterday I (a predominantly resto druid who loves his tree form) killed an ancient tree for lumbar, that tree dropped a quest, asking me to kill other trees, so I could get an item to become a tree. Yes that reads right, a tree killing a tree so he can kill more trees to become a tree .. what more could I ask for?

say trees

Warlord Zaela

I took a brief fly-by of the Dark Portal on the way to Kara on the beta .. and take a look at this, I ran into an old friend! After the Seige of Ogrimmar I was wondering what would happen to the four Orcs I thought may have had a shot at being Warchief .. its good to know that we will see a bit more storyline for at least two of them (Zaela and Ariok), and can hope for more on the others.

What I wanted to really talk about today was the changes in classes – spells, talents, abilities.  I’ve had a week now to play around with the main class (druid) and a few alts – like Warlocks, Warriors, Hunters etc. I can’t complain about the amount of damage I’ve been doing in dps, or the fact that I had no problems healing Bloodmaul Slag Mines, overall in that respect I have no concerns .. but, I’ve been looking at what has been removed, and what has been given, what has been changed, and the one thing that keeps coming to mind is .. was it or is it necessary?
